Papa John’s has acquired a big new ambassador to represent the company. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will be joining the board of the pizza giant. Steve Ritchie was proud to announce the appointment in March of 2019. He will be the first African-American person to serve on the board. As well as being one of the most famous basketball players of all time, Shaquille O’Neal is also highly respected in the business world. He will be a familiar face to most people, as he still has a high presence in the public eye despite having retired years ago. He regularly appears on TV along with roles in movies and commercials.
Shaq, as he is known to many, already has experience in the restaurant business. He owns restaurants in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. He will also have investments in nine Papa John’s locations around Atlanta.
Shaquille O’Neal is thrilled to be on board. and he is excited to improve every aspect of the company over the next years. The deal is worth 8.25 million to Shaq. The over 12,000 employees of the company are happy to have him with the company for the next three years at least. Along with Shaq’s celebrity status and business knowledge, Steve Ritchie, CEO of Papa John’s, is pleased to have brought some diversity to the company. Ritchie is also looking to increase the amount of minority run franchises around the world for Papa John’s.
It comes of the back of Steve Ritchie’s determination to improve equality, diversity and inclusivity to every level of the pizza company. Steve Ritchie also recently outlined a marketing strategy aimed at implementing a new aggressive ad campaign. He hopes it will reverse some recent quarters of negative results and help avoid closures of restaurants. With this latest announcement, Shaquille O’Neal will be an important part of that new campaign.
