The Storied Career of Rebel Wilson

To celebrate her 39th birthday actress, comedienne and singer Rebel Wilson released a video on March 2nd wherein she and some friends engaged in a rehearsed comedy dance routine that Wilson labeled “Catzercise.” She and her co-stars in the Instagram-released video spent about a half hour rehearsing and practicing the routine which Rebel Wilson put out for her fans to enjoy.

The routine involved all the performers dressed as cats. Wilson herself decked out in furry pink armbands and cat ears- and performing a cat-inspired workout. The link to felines is notable because Wilson will be featured in the upcoming theatrical version of the popular Broadway play “Cats” in the role of “Jennyanydots”, a role that will feature Wilson dancing and singing. Rebel Wilson is no stranger to singing and dancing, with one of her more well-known roles being in the comedy/musical “Pitch Perfect” trilogy of movies as “Fat Amy.” Her role on the “Pitch Perfect” series was a huge breakout performance for Wilson, who was nominated for several awards for her performance, and winning her such notable awards as the MTV Movie Awards’ “Best Breakout Performance” and the “Choice Movie Actress” award from the Teen Choice Awards, among others.

Wilson was named one of Variety Magazine’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch in 2011” after appearing in several co-starring roles in films such as “Bridesmaids”, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and “Struck by Lightning” after she moved to the U.S. from her native Australia. She created and starred in the one-season ABC sitcom “Super Fun Night” during the 2013-2014 television season. Before coming to the U.S. Wilson had some success in Australia, co-starring or guest starring on TV shows including “Pizza”, “The Wedge” and “Thank God You’re Here.” She produced, wrote and starred in the musical comedy series “Bogan Pride” in 2008, her first behind-the-scenes work.

Rebel Wilson graduated from the University of New South Wales in 2009 with dual Bachelors degrees in Laws and Arts. She initially wanted to be a mathematician, but switched over to performing arts after she spent a year in South Africa, contracting malaria and having a malaria-induced hallucination of herself as an Oscar-winning actress.

Currently residing in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA area after relocating to the U.S. around 2011, Rebel Wilson studied with the L.A. Upright Citizens Brigade theater. She also performed stand-up in her early career in addition to her work on screen and stage.

Wilson has several upcoming projects in addition to her role in “Cats.” She will be in a remake of the Goldie Hawn comedy “Private Benjamin” as well as co-starring with Anne Hathaway in a movie called “The Hustle”, a female-starring remake of the Steve Martin and Michael Caine film “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”

Wilson will also be in the Taika Waititi dark comedy “JoJo Rabbit” and is producing and starring in an adaptation of the Image Comics comic book “Crowded.” She is starring with Amanda Seyfried in “The Social Life” as well.
